Slow networking in Ubuntu Feisty caused by avahi-daemon

Posted by David N. Welton Thu, 19 Apr 2007 02:39:56 GMT

Or, more accurately, by the new configuration of /etc/nsswitch.conf, as detailed in this bug report:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/avahi/+bug/94940

I got pretty frustrated hunting that down. I hope it gets fixed soon after the release of Feisty, because it's supremely annoying to have a slow internet connection when you know that, well, it isn't.

This is no bug in nss-mdns/avahi. If you have no reverse DNS setup for your IP addresses looking them up will always be slow, the question is just how slow.

Better fix your network configuration than complaining about alleged bugs.

bla - you can rail all you like about my network configuration, but it's a pretty standard setup, with your average storebought wireless router. If it doesn't work for me, I bet it will not work for a lot of other people. And it worked just fine prior to upgrading. So there is a "bug" somewhere, and it needs fixing.

I agree with DW- this is a killer bug - very frustrating and needs to be fixed soonest
